For over 25 years I have written and reported about travel, lifestyle, history, food, entertainment and the weird and wonderful side of life for over 150 magazines, newspapers and broadcasters including the Los Angeles Times, BBC Radio, BBC News, Atlas Obscura, ALTA California, Crime Reads, SFGate, LAist/KPCC, LA Daily News, National Geographic Traveler, Los Angeles Magazine, Crime Reads, Hemispheres, Real Crime, Frommers, Westways, High Life, Delta Sky, American Way, The Guardian, LA Weekly, Variety, Bizarre, Discover Hollywood, Belfast Telegraph, History Ireland, Sunday Life, Daily Mirror and BBCAmerica.
His true crime book The Alaskan Blonde: Sex, Secrets, and the Hollywood Story that Shocked America, a reexamination of a scandalous unsolved murder in 1953 Alaska, was nominated for an Anthony Award and won the National Indie Excellence Award and PSWA Award, and his short story “Under The Stars” was selected for the 2023 Sisters in Crime Los Angeles anthology, Entertainment To Die For.
He is also the author of the Gourmet Ghosts alternative guides to Los Angeles bars, restaurants and hotels; the guides look at the architecture and history of famous and forgotten places across the city, and the ghost stories, celebrity sightings, true crimes and strange things that have happened there.
He has appeared on many podcasts and radio programmes about both books, and has given talks and lectures online and in person across California. You might have seen him with Zak Bagans in Ghost Adventures on Discovery+, and in the “Uncanny Curses” episode of The UnXplained, hosted by William Shatner on History.
